Namnet Martin Eden lånade Jack London från kroppsarbetaren Mårten Edin, bördig från Ådalen [1], där han föddes 3 januari 1865 av mor Barbro Christina Tall och med far Pehr Mårtensson Edin på Båtsmanstorpet i Västgranvåg.
